At the international Naturajazz competition in Tenerife, José Luis Higuerrey won with the project "Strokes," which depicts the beauty of nature through the lens of a camera.
At the Naturajazz international nature photography competition, held annually by the Museum of Nature and Archeology of Tenerife (MUNA), the project "Brushstrokes" by artist José Luis Higueras won. This festival combines jazz and photography, and this year Higueras' project received the highest score – 117 points in the "Rest of the Terrestrial World" category.
The selection committee chose the 11 best projects, which will be shown during jazz evenings from November 7 to 28. Works from various countries were submitted to the competition: Spain, India, Italy and Argentina. According to José Carlos Acha, Councilor for Culture, this makes the competition important at the national and international level, and also emphasizes support for culture and artists who appreciate nature.
The main winner will receive 4,000 euros, and the other finalists will receive 800 euros each. In his "Brushstrokes" project, Higueras shows the beauty of nature through the lens of a camera. He strives to convey the beauty of the small creatures that surround us, as if he were an artist, where the camera is a brush and nature is a canvas.
In the "Canary Islands, Terrestrial World" category, José Juan Hernández won with the series "Shores of Life". Eduardo Ramos, Sebastián Francisco Pages González and Amanhuy Duque Hernández also reached the final.
The works of the finalists can be seen during jazz concerts at MUNA from November 7 to 28.
In the "Canary Islands, Underwater World" category, Jesús Yeray Delgado Dorta won with the series "Echoes of the Canary Islands", scoring 116 points.
