Spanish writer Jorge Fernández Gonzalo won the international poetry competition in Santa Cruz de la Palma with the poem "Sparrow Made of Shadow".

Spanish writer and philosophy professor Jorge Fernández Gonzalo won the International Poetry Competition in Santa Cruz de la Palma. The competition was organized by the local authorities of Bajada de la Virgen de las Nieves.

His poem "Sparrow Made of Shadow" was recognized as the best among 170 works. The jury, which included famous writers, unanimously singled out this particular work.

The judges praised the author for his subtle sense of nature and deep insight into the human soul. His poems have tenderness, but at the same time a critical look at the world around us.

The winner will receive 6,000 euros, and his poem will be published in the Ministerio del Aire collection by Ediciones La Palma.

The head of Bajada de la Virgen, Asier Antona, stressed that this competition is very important for the city: "The Santa Cruz de la Palma Poetry Prize has already become an important cultural event. It makes our city known abroad and enriches cultural life. We are proud that such a talented author as Jorge Fernández Gonzalo has become the winner. This confirms that literature is an important part of our identity."

Jorge Fernández Gonzalo teaches philosophy at the Complutense University of Madrid. He is one of the most famous Spanish poets of our time. He has published about ten collections of poems, including "Almond Leaf", "Potter's Reflections", "Third Wave", "Body Modeling", "The Root of the Word" and "Fish Guts".

In addition, he is the author of more than ten scientific works on philosophy, sociology and literary theory. He is considered a significant figure in modern culture.
