Joan Manuel Serrat to Discuss Music and Poetry at University of La Laguna
The University of La Laguna will host singer-songwriter Joan Manuel Serrat on October 1 for a special event exploring the intersection of music and poetry as part of its "Book Days" cultural program.
The University of La Laguna (ULL) is set to host a major cultural event on Thursday, October 1, featuring legendary singer-songwriter Joan Manuel Serrat. Rather than a traditional concert, the evening at the university’s Paraninfo will focus on the connection between music and literature, highlighting Serrat’s work as a lyricist and his dedication to promoting poetry.
The event is part of the "Book Days: A Year to Inhabit the Word" program, organized by the Vice-Rectorate for Culture and University Extension with support from Cajasiete. Following previous sessions with authors like David Uclés and María Folguera, this series aims to spark interest in literature within the university community. The discussion will center on how Serrat has adapted the works of iconic poets—including Antonio Machado, Miguel Hernández, Mario Benedetti, Joan Salvat-Papasseit, and Violeta Parra—into song.
The program begins at 7:00 p.m. with an interview led by two undergraduate students, followed by a Q&A session with the audience. While the focus is on literature, the musical group CervanTres will perform selections from Serrat’s repertoire throughout the evening.
To attend, guests must reserve tickets via an online form, with a limit of two per person until the venue reaches capacity. For those unable to attend in person, the event will be broadcast live online. This initiative reflects the ULL’s ongoing commitment to interdisciplinary study, framing Serrat’s lyrical career as a key subject for reflection in its 2026 cultural calendar.
