Former CD Tenerife midfielder Javi Alonso is participating in AFE sessions to regain his fitness and pursue a professional comeback after a two-year injury-plagued hiatus.

Javi Alonso has reached a pivotal moment in his professional career. According to Deporpress, the Tenerife-born midfielder is currently taking part in the AFE Sessions, a program run by the Association of Spanish Footballers designed to help free agents find new clubs. The initiative provides a high-performance environment—complete with medical, nutritional, and technical support—giving Alonso the perfect opportunity to regain his competitive edge after a long period of inactivity.

Since leaving CD Tenerife, Alonso has spent over 750 days sidelined. His recent career has been hampered by three serious injuries, the most recent being a fifth metatarsal fracture. This was particularly difficult to process, as it came just after he had successfully recovered from two previous knee surgeries. These setbacks forced him to seriously consider his future, but with the support of his inner circle and his own resilience, he has managed to avoid early retirement.

Despite these challenges, Alonso remains pragmatic about his time at CD Tenerife. Having made 60 professional appearances, he holds no resentment toward the club and views his time there as a valuable learning experience. While his final season with the reserve team did not provide the playing time he had hoped for, it helped him accept the end of his contract on June 30 with the maturity of a player who understands that professional sports are always evolving.

Alonso is now focused on physical rehabilitation. While he acknowledges that he needs to prove his fitness in match situations, he reports that he is pain-free and ready for a new challenge. Training alongside other professionals like Sekou Gassama and Rodri Ríos at the AFE sessions allows him to stay in top shape, which is essential for any player looking to prove his worth in today’s demanding market.

Throughout this transition, veteran player Aitor Sanz has served as a key mentor. Having also overcome long-term injuries, Sanz has provided Alonso with invaluable guidance on managing recovery and maintaining a competitive mindset. As he enters this new chapter, Alonso is eager to find a team where he can enjoy football again. He is leaving behind the uncertainty of the past two years, emerging as a more composed player with a deeper, more analytical perspective on his profession.
