Isla Calavera Film Festival Expands Global Reach at Cannes Marché du Film
The Isla Calavera Canary Islands Fantastic Film Festival is leveraging its presence at the Cannes Film Festival’s Marché du Film to establish La Laguna as a global hub for fantasy cinema and attract international industry investment.
The Isla Calavera Canary Islands Fantastic Film Festival is making a significant mark at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, signaling a major step forward in Tenerife’s international film strategy. By attending the Marché du Film, the festival aims to establish La Laguna as a global center for producing and showcasing fantasy cinema.
This presence at the world’s most influential film event is the result of ten years of dedicated work. With support from the La Laguna City Council, festival directors Daniel Fumero and Ramón González Trujillo have joined the Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF). This network of 22 countries is where global trends in fantasy film are set. Being part of the Cannes Fantastic Pavilion gives the Canary Islands festival vital exposure to distributors, programmers, and industry leaders.
Beyond promoting the festival’s tenth edition, which runs from November 6 to 15, the delegation is working to attract film productions and build new partnerships. Events like the presentation of the Honorary Trophy and the official poster this Saturday serve as key opportunities for cultural diplomacy. For La Laguna, this is a chance to showcase its heritage and creative talent on a stage where the future of the film industry is decided.
By positioning itself at the heart of the industry, the festival is strengthening its role as a driver of cultural and economic growth. This international outreach not only helps secure a high-quality lineup for the upcoming festival but also promotes the city as a prime destination for talent and investment. The delegation will continue its networking and outreach efforts in France until the festival concludes on May 23.
