Isla Calavera Film Festival Announces Star-Studded Lineup for 10th Anniversary
The Isla Calavera Canary Islands Fantastic Film Festival celebrates its tenth anniversary this November by honoring genre icons Lloyd Kaufman, Barbara Crampton, and Lone Fleming with the Fantastic Legend Award.
The Isla Calavera Canary Islands Fantastic Film Festival is celebrating its tenth anniversary this November with an ambitious program. Running from November 6 to 15 in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, the festival has boosted its international reputation by announcing three new recipients of the Fantastic Legend Award.
The festival will honor Lloyd Kaufman, co-founder of Troma Entertainment and a pioneer of independent, low-budget cinema. Joining him is Barbara Crampton, an icon of 1980s horror, who will be celebrated as the festival marks the 40th anniversary of her film From Beyond. Rounding out the honorees is Lone Fleming, a legendary actress whose work was central to the rise of Spanish "fantaterror" in the 1970s.
These guests highlight the festival’s goal of connecting cult cinema history with today’s industry. Attendees will have the chance to meet these filmmakers in person. The program also features a screening of Occupy Cannes, a documentary directed by Lily Hayes Kaufman that explores the ongoing struggle between independent filmmakers and corporate studios—a topic central to Lloyd Kaufman’s career.
This announcement, shared during a special event at Multicines Tenerife, builds on the festival’s previously confirmed guest list, which includes Tom Berenger, Joanna Cassidy, and Christopher Lambert. With this lineup, Isla Calavera continues to establish itself as a premier destination for genre cinema in Spain, successfully bridging the gap between classic icons and modern filmmaking.
