Isla Calavera Film Festival Announces Classic Screening Series Ahead of 10th Anniversary

The Isla Calavera Canary Islands Fantastic Film Festival has announced a series of special screenings to build excitement for its tenth anniversary this November. In partnership with Wilder Cinema, the festival will showcase four iconic films that helped define the horror, fantasy, and science fiction genres.

The screenings will take place at Multicines Tenerife and feature the following classics: Tim Burton’s Big Fish, Paul Verhoeven’s Total Recall, Jim Henson’s Labyrinth, and Dario Argento’s Suspiria. The series runs from September 11 to October 2, with screenings held at 7:00 p.m. Most films will be shown on Fridays, with the exception of Labyrinth, which is scheduled for a Thursday. All films will be presented in their original language with subtitles.

These events serve as a lead-up to the main festival, which is scheduled for November 6–15, 2026. Organizers plan to share exclusive updates about the upcoming festival during these screenings. Since its launch in 2017, the festival has become a national leader in the genre and a member of the Méliès International Festivals Federation.

The series is organized by the Charlas de Cine Cultural Association, Multicines Tenerife, and Tumbaabierta.com, with support from the La Laguna City Council, the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo de Tenerife, and various other partners. Tickets are currently available through the cinema’s usual sales channels.

By bringing these influential films back to the big screen, the festival aims to bridge the gap between cinematic history and new audiences. The selection highlights the diversity of the Isla Calavera program, ranging from emotional storytelling to stylized horror.
