The Isla Calavera Canary Islands Fantastic Film Festival is hosting two special preview screenings of The Dark Crystal and La ahorcada this April at Multicines Tenerife ahead of its tenth anniversary celebration in November.

The Isla Calavera Canary Islands Fantastic Film Festival is gearing up for its tenth anniversary, which will take place from November 6 to 15. To build excitement and offer more for local film fans, the festival has announced two special preview events this April at its home venue, Multicines Tenerife.

The pre-festival lineup offers a mix of classic cinema and new Spanish releases. On April 24, the festival will screen the 1982 fantasy classic The Dark Crystal. Directed by Jim Henson and Frank Oz, the film is celebrated for its groundbreaking puppetry and animatronics. It will be shown in its original language with subtitles, courtesy of Wilder Cinema.

On April 30, the focus shifts to modern Spanish horror with a screening of La ahorcada. The event will feature a special appearance by director Miguel Ángel Lamata and actor Eduardo Noriega, who received the festival’s Honorary Award in 2023. After the film—which stars Amaia Salamanca, Cosette Silguero, and Norma Ruiz—the guests will host a Q&A session to discuss the making of this suspenseful thriller.

These events highlight the festival's role in bringing unique genre films to the Canary Islands outside of standard commercial releases. Organized by the Charlas de Cine Cultural Association, Multicines Tenerife, and TumbaAbierta.com, the festival is supported by the La Laguna City Council, the Government of the Canary Islands, and the Cabildo de Tenerife.

Both screenings start at 7:00 PM. Tickets are available now at the Multicines Tenerife box office and on their website.
