The tenth edition of the Isla Calavera Canary Islands Fantastic Film Festival is set to take place in Tenerife from November 6 to 15, 2026. Following a successful presentation at the Sitges Film Festival, the event has solidified its reputation as a leading destination for genre cinema.

Organized by the Charlas de Cine Cultural Association, Multicines Tenerife, and Tumbaabierta.com, the festival has announced that actress Sean Young and director Alejandro Amenábar will receive this year’s Honorary Awards. Young, best known for her role in Blade Runner, will host a Q&A session following a screening of the film. She joins a prestigious list of past guests, including Christopher Lambert, Tom Berenger, and Lloyd Kaufman.

Alejandro Amenábar will attend to mark the 30th anniversary of his debut film, Tesis. He will be joined by actor Eduardo Noriega for a special session discussing the movie's lasting impact on Spanish cinema. This year’s festival also celebrates the 40th anniversary of David Cronenberg’s The Fly, which serves as the visual theme for the event.

The festival’s competition features 13 feature films, with a strong emphasis on Spanish cinema. Notably, three of the six Spanish entries were produced in the Canary Islands, highlighting the region's growing influence in the industry. The remaining lineup offers a global perspective, with films from the United States, Finland, Indonesia, and a South Korean-Indonesian co-production.

Supported by the La Laguna City Council and various tourism and cultural partners, the festival has matured significantly since its 2017 debut. By balancing tributes to legendary filmmakers with a showcase for new talent, the Isla Calavera festival continues to serve as a vital hub for fantasy, horror, and science fiction, while championing local Canarian filmmaking on the world stage.
