At the IX Fantastic Film Festival "City of La Laguna - Skull Island" in Tenerife, the legendary director Randal Kleiser will receive an honorary award for his contribution to cinema, and his cult films will also be shown.

The IX Fantastic Film Festival "City of La Laguna – Skull Island" will be held in Tenerife, Canary Islands, from November 7 to 16. This year, the festival will be visited by the legendary director Randal Kleiser, who gave us such cult films as "Grease" (1979) – one of the most successful musical films, "The Blue Lagoon" (1980), which became a real phenomenon, and the beloved by many teenage science fiction adventure "Flight of the Navigator" (1986).

Kleiser also directed the famous films "White Fang" (1991) based on the novel by Jack London, the thriller "Shadow of Doubt" (1998) with Tom Berenger and Melanie Griffith, as well as the sequels "Big Top Pee-wee" (1988) and "Honey, I Blew Up the Kid" (1992).

At the opening ceremony of the festival, Kleiser will be awarded the honorary "Skull Island" award for his contribution to cinema. He masterfully combines artistic talent with the ability to tell stories in various genres, creating films that have influenced several generations and have become part of mass culture. His filmography demonstrates the versatility of a director who easily moves from musical comedy to science fiction and adventure.

Randal Kleiser has always been interested in new technologies. He experimented with virtual reality in the short film "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience!" (1994) for Disney parks, combining 4D technologies with 70mm format, 3D and physical effects. In 2004, he used virtual scenery in the film "Red Riding Hood", a musical version of the famous fairy tale. From 2015 to 2017, Kleiser filmed the series "Defrost" in stereoscopic 3D at 360 degrees. In 2019, he created the augmented reality short film "Grease XR", where 20 dancers perform four scenes inspired by "Grease".

In honor of Randal Kleiser, the festival will screen the films "Grease" and "Flight of the Navigator", as well as the documentary "Life After Navigator" (2020) about actor Joey Cramer, the star of Kleiser's film.

Randal Kleiser will join Jenette Goldstein and William Hope from "Aliens", who have already confirmed their participation in the festival. The organizers promise to announce new guests of "Skull Island 2025" in the near future. The festival will be a great opportunity for fans of fantastic cinema to meet their idols.

The "Skull Island" festival is organized with the support of many organizations, including the Cultural Association "Cinematographic Talks", the Cultural Association "Skull Island", Multicines Tenerife and TumbaAbierta.com. Thanks to the participation of stars such as Ron Perlman, Henry Thomas, Adrienne Barbeau, John Landis, Joe Dante and many others, "Skull Island" has become known internationally. The festival was also visited by Spanish actors and directors, such as Belén Rueda, Álex de la Iglesia and others.
