International Ballet Company Launches Canary Islands Winter Tour
The International Ballet Company has launched its winter tour across the Canary Islands, featuring large-scale productions of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and The Nutcracker.
The Canary Islands are once again a hub for European classical dance this week as the International Ballet Company begins its winter tour. The company is dedicated to preserving 19th-century choreography, combining academic precision with grand, ambitious staging.
Led by artistic director Cristina Terentiev, the company features a multinational cast of professionals trained in schools across Spain, Ukraine, France, Italy, and the United Kingdom. This diverse group will perform two of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s most iconic works: Swan Lake and The Nutcracker. The tour is notable for its large-scale productions, featuring elaborate costumes and scenery designed to appeal to a wide audience.
Following its first stop in Gran Canaria, the tour is moving to Tenerife. The Paraninfo at the University of La Laguna will host Swan Lake this Tuesday and Wednesday at 8:00 p.m., followed by The Nutcracker on Thursday at the same time. On Friday, the company will head to the south of the island to perform at the Infanta Leonor Auditorium in Los Cristianos, Arona, starting at 8:30 p.m.
Tickets are available through several platforms, including Tomaticket.es, tusreservasonline, and 4tickets.cat/ibc/. To encourage attendance, the company is offering discounted rates for student groups, organized groups, and dance schools.
This tour is part of the International Ballet Company’s broader mission to bring classical ballet to international stages. By pairing award-winning soloists with a classically trained corps de ballet, the company aims to showcase the enduring power of these traditional works, which remain a cornerstone of European theater.
