Impulso Creativo Festival Expands Cultural Reach in Tenerife
The inaugural Impulso Creativo Festival is decentralizing Canary Islands culture by hosting professional workshops and performances across Tenerife to foster local artistic development.
The Impulso Creativo Festival is marking a new milestone in bringing culture to more areas of the Canary Islands. By positioning La Orotava as a key hub for sharing technical and artistic expertise, the festival is shifting the focus away from the island capitals. This approach allows local creators to connect directly with renowned national and international professionals.
Taking place across various locations in Tenerife, the festival goes beyond simple performances to focus on the craft of production. On March 18 and 19, the School of Music and Dance and the Youth House in La Orotava will host training sessions covering topics ranging from contemporary playwriting to casting for film and television.
The program offers a wide variety of disciplines. On Wednesday, March 18, award-winning choreographer Daura Hernández will lead a session on using the body as a storytelling tool, followed by a workshop on contemporary stage writing with Luis Sorolla. The day ends with pianist Polo Ortí, who will explain the creative process behind live musical composition. On Thursday, March 19, casting director Paula Amor will provide a behind-the-scenes look at performer selection, and designer Juliana Serrano will host a mask-making workshop inspired by the style of Tim Burton.
In addition to the workshops, the festival continues to showcase original work. The event concludes on March 22 at the Teatro Leal in La Laguna with a performance of HAMLET-A, directed by Bibiana Monje. Tickets are currently available through standard channels, including Tickety.es.
This initiative reflects a growing trend toward professionalizing the islands' cultural sector, where ongoing training is vital for creators to stay competitive. For more information and updates on this first edition, visit the festival’s official website.
