In Tenerife, a bridge near the hospital is being repaired and roads are being renovated for €30 million.
In Tenerife, repairs have begun on the pedestrian bridge near the University Hospital of the Canary Islands, as well as the renovation of the TF-1 highway between Arico, Fasnia, and Güímar, investing a total of over 30 million euros in improving road infrastructure.
In Tenerife, the local authorities (Cabildo) have undertaken the improvement of the pedestrian bridge near the University Hospital of the Canary Islands. The bridge is located on the TF-194 road.
The repair is being carried out by the company Señalizaciones Villar, and it will cost over €96,000. The plan is to finish by October.
Dámaso Arteaga, who is responsible for roads, together with Domingo Galván from the La Laguna City Council, checked on the progress of the work. Arteaga explained that the repair work was started urgently because the bridge railings need to be replaced. This is important to prevent debris from falling onto the tram tracks.
In addition, the road near the TF-5 junction and the hospital is being repaired. This costs €300,000 and will take three months. Arteaga added that the aim here is to make the area more convenient for people: to connect the pedestrian ramp with the sidewalks, create a new bus stop, and divert rainwater.
All of this is part of a major plan to improve roads on the island. A tender was recently announced for 38 different projects to make roads safer and repair them. The plan is to renew the surface, improve drainage, apply new markings, install fences, and protect the roads. Slopes and embankments on various roads will also be reinforced.
More than €700,000 has been allocated for these works. Special attention will be paid to updating signs, such as "give way", lane markings, arrows, and intersection markings. They need to be clearly visible, especially at night, to prevent drivers from having accidents.
There are also plans to repair the TF-1 highway between Arico, Fasnia, and Güímar. €30 million has been allocated for this and will cover approximately 24 kilometers of road. Here, the surface will be renewed, special lanes will be created to warn of leaving the road, the markings will be repainted, and protective barriers will be installed. This road is very important because more than 50,000 cars travel on it every day.
