The number of special bathing chairs for people with disabilities has been increased to eight on Las Teresitas beach in Tenerife, thanks to the support of the Canary Islands government.

Starting this Monday, September 8, it has become easier for people with disabilities to swim at Las Teresitas beach in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. As many as eight special chairs have been installed there to help people enter the water.

The city authorities purchased five new such chairs in addition to the three that were already there. This was made possible thanks to a support program from the Government of the Canary Islands.

The mayor of the city, José Manuel Bermúdez, says that now Las Teresitas beach has become even more convenient for people with disabilities. The chairs are ready for use.

The councilor for social affairs, Candelaria Delgado, added that such initiatives make sea recreation accessible to everyone, regardless of their health condition. "We want everyone in the Canary Islands to be able to enjoy the sea," she emphasized.

The new chairs are light, durable and safe. They stay well on the water and are easy to operate, according to the councilor for social affairs, Charín González.

These five chairs are part of a large batch of 76 pieces, which the Government of the Canary Islands purchased with European Union funds. They were distributed among 30 municipalities on the islands.

At Las Teresitas beach, people are assisted by the Spanish Red Cross. They care for about 150 people from various support centers.

Most of those who use this service are women (76%). Men account for 24%. The age of people ranges from 18 to 90 years, but most are over 40. Physical disability is the most common (50%), followed by intellectual disability (30%) and other types of disabilities.
