In Santa Cruz, a cistern under the Cultural Complex added 100 m² for events.

In the city of Santa Cruz, they decided to slightly modify the reconstruction project of the old Viera y Clavijo Cultural Complex building. They found a cistern underground, and now they want to move the equipment there to better use the space in the building.

They say it's even good because as much as 100 square meters will be freed up, which can be used for cultural events. This new space will have three windows and access to the Ceiba area, so it will be possible to organize many interesting things there.

The mayor of the city, José Manuel Bermúdez, said that when old buildings like Viera y Clavijo are renovated, there are always surprises. But this time, the cistern became not a problem, but an opportunity to make the building even better. Instead of a technical room, we will have 100 squares for culture and people.

And Javier Rivero, who is responsible for the construction, added that everything is done according to the rules and with the permission of the island administration. He explained that moving the equipment is the best option for the building. And it is important for people to understand that such an important matter as the repair of this building requires attention to detail, and all changes are made only to make it more convenient to use later.

The renovation of Viera y Clavijo began in September 2022. At that time, 12.4 million euros were allocated for this. At first, everything went according to plan: the old structures were dismantled, and the unnecessary things began to be demolished. And then they found that cistern underground, the size of a small pool.

Because of the cistern, the repair will be delayed by 9 months. That is, instead of two years, the work will last 33 months. But everything has already been agreed with the builders.
