Ilegales Founder Jorge Martínez Dies at 70
Jorge Martínez, founder and lead singer of the Spanish rock band Ilegales, has died at 70 after a battle with cancer.
Jorge Martínez, the founder and lead singer of the band Ilegales, passed away this Tuesday at the age of 70. He died at the Central University Hospital of Asturias (HUCA), where he had been admitted a few days earlier for cancer treatment.
On September 19, the rock band had announced the indefinite cancellation of all their scheduled concerts due to their leader's health problems. Their statement explained that Jorge Martínez needed to undergo cancer treatment, which forced them to completely stop live performances.
In recent months, Ilegales had already cancelled several shows because of this situation, including a concert planned for September 14 at the San Mateo festivities in Oviedo.
The band emphasized that this decision, which they described as "as difficult as it was inevitable," was made solely so Martínez could focus all his energy on his recovery.
