The first tremor occurred at 3:23 a.m. in Granadilla de Abona, Tenerife, measuring 1.5 in magnitude at a depth of 16 kilometers. Later, at 6:00 a.m., sensors detected a stronger 2.2 magnitude earthquake northwest of Fuerteventura at a depth of 8 kilometers. The sequence concluded at 8:05 a.m. with a 1.7 magnitude quake in the channel between Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
From a technical standpoint, these tremors are common in the Canary Islands. Most are too faint to be felt by the public and are only detected by the IGN’s sensitive equipment.
