IES El Sobradillo will introduce the International Baccalaureate program in the 2026/27 academic year as part of a broader strategy to enhance its curriculum and global academic standing.

IES El Sobradillo is taking a major step toward internationalizing public education in the Canary Islands. The school recently announced that it will offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) starting in the 2026/27 academic year. This move broadens the school’s curriculum and aligns it with global academic standards, helping students gain easier access to top universities in Spain and abroad.

This development builds on the school’s recent success, having been named one of the top 100 secondary schools in the country this year. Its strategy focuses on three main areas: diversifying post-compulsory education, strengthening Vocational Training (FP), and promoting international mobility. Since 2016, the school has actively supported students and teachers with international training and internships lasting between two weeks and two months.

In terms of Vocational Training, IES El Sobradillo has established a successful "Dual" model that connects students directly to the job market. Students gain hands-on experience in real work environments starting in their first year, completing between 140 and 500 hours of internships. By partnering with businesses in fields like automotive, forestry, commerce, administration, and gardening, the school has achieved high rates of student employability.

The school is also committed to modernization, featuring a Technological Innovation Classroom (ATECA) and providing digital devices to post-compulsory students to encourage independent learning. Its current curriculum is extensive, covering everything from special education and compulsory secondary education to various Baccalaureate paths and a wide range of vocational training cycles.

With enrollment season approaching, the school is encouraging families to submit their applications on time. Applications for Vocational Training open on April 9. Because early registration is key—historically, over 70% of applicants secure a spot by acting quickly—families are encouraged to plan ahead.
