Icod de los Vinos to Host ‘Tales under the Dragon Tree’ Cultural Festival

The Tenerife municipality of Icod de los Vinos is set to host an exciting cultural event this weekend, turning the Drago Park into a hub for storytelling and the performing arts. Titled "Tales under the Dragon Tree," the event is a collaboration between the local Department of Tourism and the Cultural Association for the Development and Promotion of Reading and Storytelling, a group well-known for organizing international literary festivals.
This initiative is part of a local effort to boost cultural tourism and celebrate the area’s natural heritage. Running from Friday, October 4, to Sunday, October 6, the program features a variety of activities, including workshops for all ages, guided walks, and major performances. The festival kicks off at Casa Lorenzo Cáceres with a talk by writer Cecilia Domínguez Luis and the opening of a Snow White-themed origami exhibition, coordinated by Sara González Quintero.
Most of the events will take place around the town’s famous thousand-year-old dragon tree. Highlights include the musical project The Great Book of the Dragon Tree by the local group Viridiana, and storytelling sessions by Japanese artist Yoshi Hioki, who will perform for both adult and family audiences. Other featured storytellers include Mar González Novel, Xavier Aniceto Marín, and Laura Escuela. Additionally, Ernesto Rodríguez Abad, Diego Expósito, and Javier Linares will present a musical-literary evening titled If They Speak to You of Love.
Saturday’s schedule includes Erotic Iriarte at Casa Lorenzo Cáceres—a fresh take on the Enlightenment author’s work by Teatrosilos—and a session of horror stories held in the "Guanche Territory" cave. The festival concludes on Sunday with a guided tour of the park led by historian Aarón Rodríguez González, final storytelling sessions, and a performance of the play The House of Silk Shadows, directed by Lucas Balboa.
