Icod de los Vinos Launches Bids for New €400,000 La Centinela Sports Complex
The Icod de los Vinos City Council has opened the final bidding stage for a 400,000-euro sports and leisure complex in La Centinela designed to provide local youth with dedicated social space while improving neighborhood accessibility.
The Icod de los Vinos City Council has launched the final stage of bidding for a new sports and leisure complex in the La Centinela neighborhood. Funded entirely by the council with an investment of over 400,000 euros, the project aims to solve a long-standing lack of social spaces for local teenagers.
The bidding process is set to close at the end of September. The project will transform a section of the road into a multipurpose area featuring a sports court, a pump track, and shaded seating. Construction is expected to take four months, with completion scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. By moving youth activities away from the church square and into a dedicated facility, the council hopes to reduce noise and conflicts in residential areas.
The plan also addresses local traffic and accessibility. To accommodate the neighborhood’s growing population, the council will introduce one-way traffic on the affected street. The road will be raised to match the sidewalk level, which will help calm traffic and make the area more accessible for pedestrians.
To address concerns about the loss of parking, the council plans to reorganize existing spaces by switching from parallel to angled parking. This layout will also include designated spots for people with reduced mobility.
La Centinela was chosen for this project because it is already a central hub for education and sports in Icod de los Vinos. By placing the new complex here, the local government aims to keep young people integrated into the community, providing them with inclusive, visible, and well-equipped spaces to socialize.
