The ninth annual Quirino Awards for Ibero-American Animation, celebrating animation from across Ibero-America, will be held in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on April 17, 2026, with submissions open until December 1, 2025.

The Quirino Awards for Ibero-American Animation are back for their ninth year! The awards ceremony will be held on April 17, 2026, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, taking over from La Laguna. This was announced by the awards organizers and the Cabildo, the event's main sponsor through Turismo de Tenerife and the Tenerife Film Commission.

These awards, which started in 2018, celebrate the talent and industry of animation from across Ibero-America. They also aim to build connections between professionals on both sides of the Atlantic and help grow the Ibero-American animation market.

The competition is open to entries mainly produced in one of the 23 Ibero-American countries. There are seven categories: Feature Film, Series, Short Film, School Short Film, Commissioned Work, Video Game Animation, and Music Video. The selected entries can also win awards for technical achievements in Visual Development, Animation Design, and Sound Design and Original Music.

To be eligible, films must have been released between June 1, 2024, and December 31, 2025. You can register through the Festhome platform before December 1 at 11:59 PM (Spanish time). The rules are available on their website: https://filmmakers.festhome.com/f/3400/999.

An international committee will choose six finalists in each category, which will be announced in February. Then, a jury will select three nominees per category. The winners will be announced on Friday, April 17, at a venue in Tenerife's capital city (location to be announced).

Last year, David Baute's "Mariposas negras" won Best Film, the Brazilian series "Irmão do Jorel" won Best Series, and "Los carpinchos" by Uruguay's Alfredo Soderguit won Best Short Film. Other winning works came from Argentina, Brazil, and Spain.

Besides the awards, the Quirino Awards will also host another Co-production and Business Forum. Last year's forum brought together 200 professionals from 25 countries, including production companies, distributors, TV stations, and platforms, who held over 1,400 meetings. Registration for the forum will open in January.
