Hotel Bitácora in Tenerife hosted the Arona leg of the 13th Canarias Surf Film Festival, showcasing surfing as a sport, culture, and educational tool through various documentaries.

This past weekend, Hotel Bitácora, part of the Spring Hotels group in Tenerife, hosted the Arona leg of the Canarias Surf Film Festival (CSFF). The festival travels around the Canary Islands, using films to bring people together. Hotel Bitácora was an ideal spot to highlight surfing not just as a sport, but as a way of life that can educate and help people connect.

Now in its 13th year, the festival showed a variety of documentaries. These films looked at the history of surfing, its artistic side, and the human connection to waves. Miguel Villarroya, CEO of Spring Hotels, explained why these partnerships are important. He said, "At Spring Hotels, we know that tourism has changed. Our guests and local people are looking for experiences that connect them with their surroundings. So, supporting events like the CSFF at Hotel Bitácora feels very natural for us. We're an energetic brand with a youthful outlook, and we're dedicated to showcasing talent that puts the Canary Islands on the global stage through sport and culture."

A major highlight this year was the teamwork between private businesses and the cultural group organizing the festival. Chema Cavero, the festival director, praised the hotel group for their support. He noted, "Usually, private funding is quite scarce, and we rely on public money. Having brands like Spring Hotels and Hotel Bitácora welcome us makes it much easier to bring the festival to top-notch venues. This moves it beyond street screenings and makes the experience more professional for our audience."

The weekend's schedule offered more than just exciting surf moves. The event also highlighted how surfing can be a powerful educational tool. The organizers mentioned that some documentaries showed surfing as a "social tool for people who are marginalized or have disabilities," proving the ocean's ability to heal and bring people together.

Even though the event had to change its dates because of recent bad weather, it successfully gathered surf fans, filmmakers, and the general public. It achieved its goal of "showing all the artistic talent within the surfing community and linking up new, young talents with experienced directors."

Through this event, Spring Hotels once again showed its dedication to providing quality leisure activities in the south of Tenerife. They support events that, as Chema Cavero pointed out, "are not just about an extreme sport, but about a culture, a history, and an educational way of life."
