Homelessness Flash Mob Highlights Dreams in La Laguna
Caritas staged a flashmob in La Laguna, Tenerife, featuring people experiencing homelessness to raise awareness for World Homeless Day and highlight their dreams for a better future.
People who walk by La Laguna's Cathedral Square got a surprise Friday morning. A group of men and women dressed in black were lying on cardboard, pretending to be asleep. These were people who actually don't have homes or live in very poor housing. Caritas, a charity, organized the event to bring attention to World Homeless Day.
The event was a flashmob, a kind of surprise performance, and was part of Caritas's "I have dreams too" campaign. People who use Caritas's services and volunteers took part. During the event, they read out the campaign's message. It highlighted the serious problem of homelessness and stressed that it's not just a personal issue, but a problem for all of society.
The homeless people also wrote their dreams on a blank board, finishing the sentence "I dream of...". Some of their dreams included "social justice and less red tape," "decent living conditions," "decent housing and work," and simply "having a home."
