Hiker Injured in Rescue Operation at Teide National Park
A 72-year-old hiker was rescued by emergency services after sustaining moderate injuries on a trail in Tenerife's Teide National Park.
Emergency services were called to Teide National Park yesterday after a 72-year-old hiker was injured near the Roques de García. The accident occurred on trail number 3, one of the park’s most popular routes.
The alarm was raised at 6:19 p.m. when the Tenerife Island Council’s emergency center contacted the 112 service. Due to the challenging volcanic terrain, a specialized rescue operation was launched, involving the Tenerife Fire Consortium and the Red Cross’s emergency response team.
After receiving initial medical care at the scene, the woman was carried by stretcher to a nearby road. She was then taken by ambulance to Bellevue Hospital with moderate injuries.
The rescue required close coordination between several agencies, including the Civil Guard and the Island Council’s rural rangers, whose support is vital in such difficult-to-reach areas.
This incident serves as a reminder to visitors that Teide National Park’s high altitude and rugged landscape can be dangerous, even on well-marked paths. Emergency teams emphasize that hikers should exercise extreme caution, as the park’s geography makes rescue operations complex and time-consuming.
