A 63-year-old woman was hospitalized with moderate injuries after falling while hiking in Tenerife’s Teide National Park on Monday.

Safety in high-altitude environments is back in the spotlight following a recent accident in Teide National Park. A 63-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital on Monday afternoon after falling while hiking near the Roques de García in Tenerife.

The incident highlights the logistical challenges of providing medical care in remote, protected areas. Emergency services received the alert at 3:32 p.m., prompting a coordinated response from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) and the Spanish Red Cross. Rescuers stabilized the woman at the scene before moving her to a Red Cross base within the park for further treatment. She was later taken to Hospiten Bellevue University Hospital to be treated for moderate injuries.

Teide National Park attracts millions of visitors each year, but its rugged volcanic terrain demands caution. Managing emergencies in the park is a constant challenge for authorities, as the high altitude and uneven ground often complicate rescue efforts and delay response times. Falls and health issues related to physical exertion at high altitudes remain a frequent cause for emergency call-outs in the area.
