A 32-year-old hiker was airlifted to safety by emergency services after sustaining a leg injury in Tenerife’s Barranco del Infierno.

Safety in Tenerife’s natural areas is back in the spotlight following a recent rescue in the Barranco del Infierno, located in Adeje. According to the Canary Islands’ emergency services (1-1-2), a 32-year-old hiker had to be airlifted to safety after suffering an injury that left her unable to walk.

The rescue operation began shortly after 11:15 a.m. when the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) was called to the scene. Because the ravine is a protected area with challenging terrain, a helicopter was required to reach the hiker. Once rescued, she was flown to the Adeje Fire Department’s helipad. There, medical teams stabilized her before transporting her to Hospiten Sur to treat a leg injury.

This incident serves as a reminder of how important it is to be physically and technically prepared before hiking in the south of the island. The Barranco del Infierno is known for its rugged landscape and unpredictable weather, meaning hikers must plan their trips carefully. When accidents occur in these remote areas, emergency services must rely on highly coordinated, precise operations to reach those in need.
