La Palma-born composer José Hernández Toledo has won the 12th Josep Maria Lleixà Composition Prize for Symphonic Band. His winning piece, "Non Trubada. Five Historical Notes for Band," was inspired by the island of San Borondón. The Catalan Federation of Musical Societies organizes this award.

Antoni-Ernest Sebastià, president of the jury, praised the work. He noted it was "an original piece that skillfully uses chromatic harmony and many interacting voices, creating spectacular counterpoints at two specific points in the score."

José Hernández Toledo is a professor at two conservatories: he teaches trumpet and chamber music at the Professional Conservatory of Music of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and aural training at the Superior Conservatory of Music of the Canary Islands. Alongside his teaching, he also composes music for various types of musical groups.
