Hernández, Martín Win Record Garachico San Silvestre
César Hernández Borges and Adaya Martín Torres won the record-breaking 13th San Silvestre Garachiquense race, while Maru Berradia and Ana Boullón Sabín claimed victories at the San Silvestre Medanera.
César Hernández Borges and Adaya Martín Torres won the 13th San Silvestre Garachiquense race on Wednesday. This event, put together by Podona Trail and the Garachico Town Council, has become a must-do race in North Tenerife over recent years. This year saw a record number of participants, with nearly a thousand runners (979 registered) tackling the 5-kilometer city course. They ran through the streets of Garachico, which was named one of Spain's most beautiful towns in 2021.
In the men's race, César Hernández came into the event determined to win, especially after finishing second in the 2024 edition. He achieved this with a dominant performance, leading from start to finish. The Trivalle Güímar runner crossed the line in 16 minutes and 46 seconds, setting a new course record. Haotian Wu, an Asian resident known for his strong performances in road races (including a bronze at the Santa Cruz Half Marathon 2025), took second place with an excellent time of 17 minutes and 15 seconds. Wilmer González Illada, a local Garachico runner who had won the previous three editions, finished third this time with a time of 17 minutes and 22 seconds.
For the women, Adaya Martín Torres (20:14) had a tight race for first place with Sara Aguiar Torre (20:51). Sara led after the first lap (runners passed the finish line twice to complete the 5k), but Adaya pushed ahead to claim the win. Isa Salazar Allgaier (22:24) secured a commendable third place, a little behind the leading pair, to complete the women's podium.
Meanwhile, in the South of Tenerife, the San Silvestre Medanera race also took place. While smaller than Arona's Golden Mile event, it was still a notable gathering. Held in El Médano, a town within Granadilla de Abona, this year's race saw nearly 300 runners, with 299 participants crossing the finish line.
Maru Berradia was the first to finish. This Tenerife runner, who has represented Spain in the European OCR (obstacle course racing) Championship, once again proved his versatility. Berradia sped across El Médano's roads, completing the 5,000 meters in 14 minutes and 7 seconds – an impressive average of 2 minutes and 49 seconds per kilometer. Saulo Gorrín was a close second with a time of 14 minutes and 17 seconds. Interestingly, Pedro Antonio Delgado recorded the exact same time of 14 minutes and 17 seconds, placing him officially in third.
In the women's race, the gold medal went to the tireless Ana Boullón Sabín. At 44, she continues to be a frequent sight on the podiums of Tenerife's road and cross-country races. Boullón finished in exactly 17 minutes, beating Onne Tatht (17:44) and Emma Álvarez Santana (18:03).
