Hermanos Illada Sports Center Reopens in Los Silos Following Major Renovation
The Hermanos Illada Sports Center in Los Silos has officially reopened following a €117,022 renovation project that modernizes facilities and introduces new pickleball courts to the community.
The Hermanos Illada Sports Center in Los Silos has officially reopened, marking a major milestone in the effort to modernize rural sports facilities across Tenerife. The project is part of the Island Council’s (Cabildo) broader plan to restore aging public infrastructure and ensure that residents in all areas have equal access to quality sports facilities.
The renovation took four months to complete and cost 117,022 euros. The Cabildo covered 80% of the total, providing 93,618 euros. The upgrades include a new playing surface, updated fencing and lighting, and refurbished locker rooms and storage areas. The center also now features two new pickleball courts, which will be managed by the Sibora Tennis Club under the guidance of professionals accredited by the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation.
Local officials see the reopening as a vital step toward strengthening the community through sport. Mayor Carmen Luz Baso emphasized the importance of restoring local assets to improve residents' well-being, while Island Councilor for Sports Yolanda Moliné noted that the project aligns perfectly with the island's current focus on promoting healthy, active lifestyles.
The investment in Los Silos will continue with a second phase: nearly 100,000 euros has been earmarked to renovate the Sibora Club tennis courts. This project, also co-funded by the Cabildo, will replace the existing clay courts with a modern hard-court surface to better meet the needs of local players.
