Heavy Rain Floods TF-13 Tunnel in San Cristóbal de La Laguna
Heavy rainfall caused the closure of the TF-13 tunnel in San Cristóbal de La Laguna on Monday, prompting emergency crews to clear flooding and trapped vehicles with no injuries reported.
Heavy rain caused significant traffic disruption in San Cristóbal de La Laguna this Monday, putting local infrastructure to the test. According to the 1-1-2 Emergency and Security Coordination Center, the most serious issue occurred in the TF-13 tunnel, which connects the city center to Punta del Hidalgo. The tunnel was closed after flooding made it impassable for vehicles.
Emergency teams were called to the scene shortly after 9:30 a.m. The operation involved road maintenance crews, security and emergency technicians, environmental staff, and the Civil Guard, who worked to secure the area and clear trapped vehicles. The water utility company, Teidagua, also assisted with drainage efforts to resolve the flooding.
While this was the most significant incident of the day, other minor issues were reported across the city, including displaced manhole covers. The flooding on the TF-13 highlights how vulnerable underpasses can be during periods of intense rainfall.
These events have sparked renewed discussion about the drainage capacity of roads across the islands, where the terrain often makes it difficult to manage heavy downpours. With the storm expected to continue, authorities are urging drivers to be extremely cautious, particularly in low-lying areas prone to flooding. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
