Harinella's "Kaori Chan," a pizza blending Mediterranean tradition with Japanese innovation, won the Best Pizza in Spain 2025 award at the 3rd Spanish Pizza Championship in Barcelona.

Pizza was first created in southern Italy over 2,000 years ago, specifically in the humbler areas of Naples. This dish has since become a global favorite, offering incredible versatility, from the classic Margherita to more adventurous combinations that impress everyone.

The 3rd Spanish Pizza Championship, also known as "Best Pizza in Spain," recently announced its winners. The final competition took place at Yellow Park in Barcelona, where 15 establishments competed after being selected from 145 participants.

The coveted award for Best Pizza in Spain 2025 went to Harinella for their pizza, Kaori Chan. This pizza is a tribute to Kaori, the wife of Ivano, one of Harinella's founding brothers. It's described as a creation that "celebrates the union between East and West, between tradition and innovation."

The Kaori Chan pizza features a base made with Type 0 flour and wheat germ, salt, water, yeast, semolina, and extra virgin olive oil. Toppings include 100% Italian fior di latte mozzarella, Northern bonito tuna, sweet and sour red onion, Japanese katsuobushi flakes, a reduction of ponzu sauce, and green celery.

This unique pizza reinterprets the classic tuna and onion combination, blending Mediterranean tradition with Japanese innovation. It is priced at 17.90 euros.

Second place in the championship went to La Montenegro from La Felisa in León, while third place was awarded to Circus from La Bicicleta Pizzería in Dos Hermanas, Seville.

In the regional awards for Spain's autonomous communities, Tenerife stood out in the Canary Islands, sweeping the top three spots for Best Pizza of the Canary Islands.

The first-place winner in the Canary Islands was La Pacchianella, one of the oldest recipes on their menu of signature pizzas. Its appeal comes from contrasting flavors: the smooth, sweet homemade pumpkin cream balanced by salty cured pancetta and a touch of sun-dried tomato. All of this is topped with creamy burrata from Puglia. This pizza costs 12.50 euros.

Essenza took second place in the Canary Islands. This pizza celebrates Italian simplicity and authenticity, featuring a light, carefully fermented dough topped with red and yellow cherry tomatoes, fried eggplant, sun-dried tomato, and fior di latte mozzarella. It's further enhanced with homemade pesto, Parmesan cream, and fresh basil, priced at 12.90 euros.

The third award in the Canary Islands went to the 4 Stagioni, a reimagined classic designed to transport you to "the little streets of Naples." Its dough is made with a blend of Canarian and Italian flours, using an autolysis process for a lighter texture. It's topped with fior di latte mozzarella, mushrooms, grilled artichokes, cooked ham, black olives, tomato, and Parmesan.
