Habibi Núñez to Test El Reventón Endurance
Canary Islands trail runner Arezki Amokran Habibi Núñez will tackle a unique personal endurance challenge on February 28, 2026, continuously climbing a demanding section of La Palma's El Reventón trail from dawn till dusk to test his physical and mental limits.
Arezki Amokran Habibi Núñez, a well-known trail runner from the Canary Islands, is taking on a personal challenge this Saturday. He'll be testing his endurance in El Reventón, located in El Paso, La Palma. This isn't a typical race; instead, he'll be pushing his physical and mental limits by repeatedly climbing a challenging section of the trail from morning until night.
This event won't have a race number or a finish line. It involves continuously climbing one of the island's most famous and difficult trail sections, known for its steepness and lack of flat parts. It will be a huge battle against tiredness, where mental strength is just as important as physical fitness. Habibi Núñez announced on social media that he plans to do this challenge on February 28, 2026, seeing it as a way to learn about himself when extremely tired.
Habibi Núñez, who runs for the Bikila team, is very familiar with El Reventón. In 2024, he won and set a record in the 'Climb to the Stars,' a 3.3-kilometer night race with a 620-meter climb, finishing in just 24 minutes and 10 seconds. This past experience shows he knows the area and how tough the course is.
He's taking on this kind of challenge to have unique and personally meaningful sports experiences, rather than just competing. While he first thought of it as a private adventure, the idea grew when he contacted the organizers of the Reventón El Paso Fred.Olsen Express. They decided to support him with travel, accommodation, and supplies.
Despite running at an elite level in Canarian trail running for over ten years, Habibi Núñez admits he hasn't done any special training for this event, relying instead on his vast experience. His initial goal for the day is to complete six climbs, which could take five to six hours of continuous effort. After that, he plans to reassess and continue enjoying the challenge without the pressure of a fixed number of climbs.
These types of challenges also aim to promote the El Reventón race and mountain sports in general, hoping to attract more people. For Arezki Amokran Habibi Núñez, it's also a chance to boost his personal profile as an athlete. He's already thinking about other big challenges, like running "Teide from sunrise to sunset," while still planning to compete in well-known events like Transvulcania, Tenerife Bluetrail, and the Reventón El Paso Fred.Olsen Express.
