Gusts Over 90 km/h Forecast for Tenerife Central Peaks
Tenerife's central peaks are forecast to experience strong winds exceeding 90 km/h from Monday afternoon through Wednesday morning, followed by widespread rain across the Canary Islands.
Strong winds are expected to hit the central peaks of Tenerife starting Monday afternoon. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) predicts that by Tuesday, these gusts could exceed 90 kilometers per hour.
While other Canary Islands will also experience wind, it won't be as strong. The strong winds in Tenerife are expected to continue into Wednesday morning but will gradually die down by the afternoon.
Today's forecast for the islands includes some cloudy periods and slightly warmer temperatures, with wind being the main weather feature. The wind will blow from the west, being stronger in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and bringing sea breezes to the eastern islands.
Specifically, the central peaks of Tenerife will see moderate to strong westerly winds, with a chance of very strong gusts later today.
On Tuesday, the wind will pick up, with very strong gusts potentially reaching 90 kilometers per hour in Tenerife's central peaks. Other areas will also experience strong winds, and Aemet suggests that La Palma could also see very strong gusts.
La Palma might also get some light, localized rain in its western parts. The rest of the islands will have cloudy periods and steady temperatures, though some higher and mid-altitude areas on the larger islands might see a slight drop.
Currently, the wind isn't strong enough for Aemet to issue a yellow warning or for the Canary Islands Government to declare a pre-alert.
This windy spell is expected to be short-lived, easing off during Wednesday. Aemet forecasts that Tenerife's peaks will have very strong wind gusts early on Wednesday, which will lessen as the day goes on.
However, as the wind calms, widespread rain is expected. The northern and western slopes of the islands are more likely to see frequent rain, while the eastern and southern slopes will have more scattered and isolated showers.
