The band Gunpowder won the 21st University of La Laguna Music Award, an event that continues to serve as a vital platform for emerging artists in the Canary Islands.

The Canary Islands' university music scene is thriving, as shown by the success of the 21st University of La Laguna (ULL) Music Award. The competition concluded last Friday at the Aguere Cultural Space, an event organized by the university’s Vice-Rectorate for Culture and University Extension.

The band Gunpowder took home the top prize of 1,400 euros, while the second-place award of 600 euros went to Revenge and Desire. These awards do more than just provide prize money; they act as a vital platform for emerging artists, helping musicians from various genres gain professional exposure and reach new audiences.

The event also marked the return of the ULL Rock festival. The final round featured performances by Ahora Te Jodes, Mutable, and Vergil Must Die, alongside a guest set from last year’s winner, Muda. By continuing to host this contest, the University of La Laguna reinforces its commitment to supporting local talent and providing young musicians with a much-needed launchpad in a challenging industry.
