Swedish multi-instrumentalist Gunhild Carling and the Gran Canaria Big Band will bring their swing-era production, La Reina del Swing, to the Infanta Leonor Auditorium in Arona on July 16.

The Canary Islands’ cultural scene is set to host a unique blend of traditional orchestral jazz and modern performance. Following a successful run at the Teatro Cuyás in Las Palmas, the show La Reina del Swing will arrive at the Infanta Leonor Auditorium in Arona on July 16 at 8:30 p.m.

Led by conductor Chano Gil, the production transports audiences back to the 1920s. Using a big band format, the show traces the evolution of swing as it transitioned into modern jazz. Supported by the Arona City Council’s Municipal Board of Culture, the project celebrates the power of large ensembles to keep the iconic sounds of mid-20th-century popular music alive. Tickets for the event, which is recommended for ages 12 and up, are available now via the Ticketary platform.

The show stars Swedish artist Gunhild Carling, known for her incredible technical versatility. A multi-instrumentalist who plays everything from the trombone and bagpipes to the piano, Carling is also a skilled dancer. Her international reputation and massive online following—where her videos have racked up tens of millions of views—have made her a standout figure on the global festival circuit.

The Gran Canaria Big Band continues to establish itself as a driving force for jazz in the islands. With a history of collaborating with world-renowned musicians, the band provides the precise technical skill needed to recreate the classic orchestral sound. By pairing Carling’s dynamic performance with the band’s structure, the show aims to captivate both long-time jazz fans and newcomers alike.
