The Guimerá Theatre in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is operating at limited capacity after a burst water pipe linked to nearby renovation work forced emergency repairs by Emmasa.

The Guimerá Theatre is operating at a limited capacity following a burst water pipe nearby. Emmasa, the company responsible for Santa Cruz de Tenerife’s water supply, launched an emergency operation after detecting irregular flow in the network on October 24. Work to address the issue is still underway.

The repair effort has been significant, requiring seven pumping units and two heavy vehicles to clear the accumulated water. The complexity of the break—which is linked to ongoing renovation work at the theatre—forced crews to section off the damaged pipe to stabilize water pressure.

To keep the theatre open, Emmasa has installed a temporary water connection to ensure basic service while permanent repairs are made. This incident highlights the challenges of balancing urban renovation projects with the maintenance of aging underground infrastructure. Municipal technicians are closely monitoring the situation as crews work to restore the main water network.
