Guayotas Face Champions League-Bound Mataró in Home Opener
Guayotas prepare to face a formidable CN Mataró in their home opener this weekend, aiming to leverage their home-pool advantage despite missing key player Renée de Kleer.
After a tough loss at Barceloneta, the Guayotas are back home and ready for their first game of the season at the Acidalio Lorenzo pool this weekend (25th/26th).
It's their second league match, and Enrique Cruz's team will face a strong opponent: CN Mataró. The game starts at 1:00 PM.
Mataró, who will be playing in the Champions League, recently won the Catalan Cup and started their league season with a big win against Real Canoe. They're a top team, and the Guayotas will be without Renée de Kleer for the match.
Goalkeeper Irene Costa knows how tough the game will be. "They've added some great players and have a really strong team," she said. "But playing at home is an advantage, and we can make it difficult for them if we stick to our game plan." Irene is excited to play at home and added, "Our goal is to stay focused, work together, and fight hard in every quarter."
To beat Mataró, the Guayotas will need strong performances from goalkeepers Irene and captain Macu Bello, as well as goals from key players like Carla Martín, American Maryn Dempsey, Daniela Vomastková, and Natalia Naya. Last season's game at the Acidalio was a good battle, ending in an 8-14 result.
