Guía de Isora Cemetery Expansion Fast-Tracked Amid Space Shortage
Guía de Isora Town Hall is accelerating a €835,938 cemetery expansion, adding 365 niches, 186 ossuaries, and 13 Muslim graves to address a critical shortage of burial space.
Guía de Isora Town Hall is fast-tracking plans to expand the local cemetery because it's running out of space.
The project will add 365 new niches, 186 ossuaries (for ashes), and 13 graves for Muslim burials. A new area for remains, measuring 70.91 square meters, will also be built.
The expansion will cost an estimated 835,938 euros and will take place on the southeast side of the existing cemetery. Work is expected to take ten months from when the site survey is approved. The urgency is due to the real risk that Guía de Isora will soon be unable to accommodate new burials.
The council stated that this situation could lead to an "impossibility of attending to future burials," making the expansion a matter of public and social importance.
The Municipal Technical Office highlighted that the expansion is crucial to ensure the continued provision of an essential service, as required by law. The plans include burial areas, utility rooms, and the new Muslim graves section.
The budget covers all costs, including materials, labour, and profit, and is in line with current market prices.
Companies interested in bidding have until November 27, 2025, to submit their offers. The bids will be opened publicly at the Guía de Isora Town Hall on December 2.
