TheGrefg is back in Tenerife: Apologies for Teide and plans for the future.
The famous blogger TheGrefg returned to Tenerife, where he recalled past controversies regarding climbing Mount Teide and the disrupted Esland award ceremony, while also enjoying the local cuisine and scenery.
Remember the saying, "You're drawn to where things were good"? That's how David Cánovas, known to everyone as TheGrefg, ended up going to Tenerife again.
This popular blogger from Murcia already dashed off to the Canary Islands in August with his sweetheart, Sofía García, who also runs her own fitness blog. And in September, David posted a video on YouTube about each island, with the last video being specifically about Tenerife.
He had been there before, and not everything went smoothly. Two years ago, Grefg discussed the possibility of holding his Esland awards on the island – something like the "Oscars" for bloggers. At the same time, he and his friend Rotren climbed Mount Teide, which also caused controversy. In the new video, he mentioned those stories, showed the local cuisine, beaches, and once again conquered the highest point in Spain.
This time, Grefg decided to comment on those past incidents. First, about climbing Teide, he said that he deeply regrets his actions: "Under no circumstances should you repeat what I did two years ago. These are serious mountains, and it's dangerous there."
Back then, David climbed to the top on foot. Due to a fire on the island, he used the cable car to La Rambleta, having all the permits and a guide. "Immediately after our ascent, rescue operations began, and the rules became stricter. We didn't realize then, and neither did I, that mountains are no joke," Grefg confessed.
The second topic is the Esland awards. After several ceremonies in different cities, Tenerife could have been the next venue. Local authorities even negotiated with Grefg's team.
But, in the end, the award ceremony never took place. Grefg said that he had planned to hold it in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, but failed to reach an agreement with the organizers. He added that he really liked the place, and it would have been great to hold such a large-scale event there, as it would have brought together top Spanish-speaking bloggers with millions of followers.
Grefg and Sofía managed to visit several cool restaurants in Tenerife. But, as is known, the true soul of Canarian cuisine lies in simple local cafes, "guachinches".
Together with his friend Rotren, who always accompanies Grefg in Tenerife, they went to taste local dishes. David tried fried cheese with mojo sauce, the meat dish "ropa vieja", cornmeal soup "escaldón de gofio" and grilled meat. Verdict: "Authentic, cheap and very tasty!". As a farewell gift, Rotren gave them a bunch of local delicacies.
In addition, Grefg swam in the ocean, rode a motorcycle and strolled through the picturesque corners of Tenerife. Although he liked everything, he admitted that he did not have time to see everything he wanted.
Overall, the trip was wonderful: delicious food, local traditions, incredible scenery and memories of conquering the highest point in Spain. Grefg even hinted on Instagram that he plans to return to climb Teide from the ocean – the so-called 0-4-0 challenge.
This trip showed two things: Grefg will definitely return to Tenerife, and the island is still waiting for the ESLAND awards, which never happened.
