Granadilla Socialists Slam Government Over Stalled Record Budget Projects
Granadilla de Abona's Socialist party has criticized the current local government for failing to implement any projects from the 2025 town budget, which contained record investments approved by the previous Socialist administration.
The Socialist party in Granadilla de Abona has criticized the current local government for failing to carry out projects planned in the 2025 town budget. The party noted that this budget included the biggest investment plans ever approved for the municipality, yet the current government hasn't started any of them.
This budget was created by the previous Socialist administration. It remained valid even after a no-confidence vote in March, which saw José Domingo Regalado (Coalición Canaria) become mayor with support from a Popular Party councilor and two Vox councilors. Key projects in the budget included building a modular car park in El Médano (budgeted at 2,924,403 euros), paving and upgrading Rosario La Maestra street (240,451 euros), and expanding the Sanipeques Infant School (299,376 euros).
Other planned projects included upgrading the Los Cardones court, the El Médano Skate Park, and buying the Gardi cinema in the town centre, together worth 3,851,230 euros. Socialist spokesperson Jennifer Miranda stated that the current three-party government has been leading the town council for almost a year, yet none of these investments have been put out to tender or processed.
Miranda also mentioned other projects started by the Socialist administration, such as the Chiñama and La Hoyita sports centres. She noted that these should have been completed months ago, which, in her view, shows the current management is overwhelmed. The Socialist party emphasized the need to ensure that the approved budget investments are actually carried out. They also called for stronger planning, transparency, and control in public management, so that resources genuinely lead to specific improvements for the municipality.
