The Magellan Center will be built in the Sotavento park in Granadilla de Abona for 1.268 million euros. It will include exhibition halls, rest areas, and an amphitheater, with the aim of attracting tourists and improving the city's infrastructure.

The town of Granadilla de Abona has decided to build the Magellan Center. It will be an interesting place to learn about the journey of the famous navigator Ferdinand Magellan, who once stopped here during his first circumnavigation.

The center will be located in Sotavento Park, between El Cano and Hernán Cortés streets. The project is called: "Reconstruction of Sotavento Park and construction of the Magellan Center."

The construction company Desarrollos e Iniciativas Canarias offered the best plan, so they will be in charge of it.

The construction is financed by the European support program – Next Generation EU. These funds were allocated back in 2022.

The total planned expenditure is 1.268 million euros. The works will last about six months. During this time, the park will not only be renovated, but a modern cultural center dedicated to Magellan and his historic journey will also be built.

The park will have areas for sports, family recreation, an open-air amphitheater, and lots of greenery with local plants. The Magellan Center itself will be harmoniously integrated into the landscape. There will be exhibition halls, rooms for various events, and outdoor areas.

Local authorities say that construction will begin by the end of this year. They hope that this will "revitalize the Sotavento area" and attract more tourists and entrepreneurs. The main goal is to make the park a favorite vacation spot for all residents.

The mayor of Granadilla de Abona, José Domingo Regalado, considers this project very important for the city. "We will not only improve the park, but also create a new cultural space that will be of interest to both locals and tourists," he says. "This is an investment in the future of our city, which is associated with the name of Magellan, who made us famous throughout the world."

Marcos Antonio Rodríguez, who is responsible for the construction, emphasized that the project will be modern, environmentally friendly and will take into account the features of the area. "We have thought through every detail to make the park comfortable, safe and durable," he explained.
