Granadilla de Abona to Host PWA/IWT World Windsurfing Tour in 2026
Granadilla de Abona will host the PWA/IWT world tour at El Médano from July 31 to August 9, 2026, featuring world title deciders, the Spanish Open Championship, and the new Foil Drive Challenge.
Granadilla de Abona will once again cement its status as a key hub for the international nautical industry in the summer of 2026. Organizers have confirmed that the El Médano coastline will host the PWA/IWT world tour, an event that serves as a major boost for tourism and the local economy in southern Tenerife.
Scheduled for July 31 to August 9, 2026, the event is about more than just competition. El Cabezo Beach will host the world title deciders for the Open, Junior, and Masters categories across both men’s and women’s divisions. Now in its twelfth year, the event will also feature the Spanish Open Championship, giving national competitors the chance to showcase their skills alongside the world’s elite.
This year’s edition also introduces the "Foil Drive Challenge." This initiative highlights the latest advancements in wind sports by combining equipment exhibitions, live demonstrations, and a dedicated competition. By doing so, organizers hope to make these technical innovations more accessible and engaging for the general public.
Beyond the sports, the event will feature a festival atmosphere designed to attract a wide audience. A centralized venue will host a variety of activities, blending high-level competition with entertainment. This approach not only provides great exposure for sponsors but also reinforces Tenerife’s reputation as a premier destination for world-class sporting events.
