Granadilla de Abona to Build Tenerife’s First Modular Parking Facility in El Médano
The Granadilla de Abona City Council has signed a €2.92 million contract to construct Tenerife’s first modular parking facility in El Médano, providing 160 spaces to alleviate chronic traffic congestion.
The Granadilla de Abona City Council has officially signed a contract to build a modular parking facility in El Médano—the first of its kind in Tenerife. The project, which costs over 2.92 million euros, aims to address the chronic lack of parking in one of the south’s busiest tourist and residential hubs.
The facility will be a two-story, 2,155-square-meter structure located near the soccer field on Calle Tenerife. It will provide space for 160 vehicles and feature an accessible rooftop. Councilor for Works and Services, Marcos Antonio Rodríguez, noted that the project addresses a long-standing request from local residents and business owners who struggle with parking shortages, especially during the summer.
This project is part of a broader municipal strategy to modernize public services and boost the area's economic and social vitality. With the contract now signed, preparations are underway to begin construction, with the goal of opening the facility as soon as possible.
This initiative is particularly significant given the ongoing challenge of managing traffic in the Canary Islands' coastal areas. By choosing a modular system rather than traditional concrete, the council expects a faster construction process, which is essential for an area that attracts visitors year-round.
