Granadilla de Abona showcased its culinary traditions, local ingredients, and excellent cooking at Madrid Fusión 2026, Spain's premier food congress.

Granadilla de Abona recently took part in Madrid Fusión 2026, Spain's most important food congress. The municipality presented a plan that highlighted its traditions, local ingredients, and excellent cooking. The local council, through its Local Employment and Development Agency (led by Carmen Mesa), brought a group of chefs, restaurant owners, and special local products to the event in Madrid.

This year, three restaurants showcased Granadilla de Abona's culinary strengths: El Ancla (with chefs Jesús Marrero and Adonis Machuca), El Empaquetado (with Yannick Duflocq), and El Secreto de Chimiche (represented by Diana Marcelino). They were joined by a range of authentic local products. These included traditional gofio from Molino de Gofio de Granadilla, the highly-rated Tiro Liro oil, premium extra virgin Flor de Afife oil, local wines from Frontos and Mencey Chasna, and delicious sweets by María Isidra Dorta.

Local company Gomeralia Catering, represented by Teresa Mesa and Servando Clemente, also attended. They joined the Tenerife Island Council (Cabildo de Tenerife) as a leading business in their field, known for catering to major film productions on the island.

Carmen Mesa noted that Granadilla de Abona's presence at Madrid Fusión "allowed us to show off our excellent food and local products, from the coast to the mountains, and recognize the hard work of our chefs and producers." She added that this involvement shows "our dedication to local growth, sustainability, and promoting Granadilla de Abona as a top food destination."

This appearance at Madrid Fusión is part of a long-term effort by Granadilla de Abona's City Council and its Local Employment and Development Agency. For years, they have been promoting and strengthening local farming and food industries, building the municipality's reputation as a culinary leader both in and outside the Canary Islands. Madrid Fusión 2026, which took place from January 26-28 at IFEMA Madrid, offered a perfect platform to highlight Granadilla's food scene and show how local ingredients are used, blending tradition with modern culinary excellence.

This year, Tenerife featured its biggest stand ever, covering 400 square meters. It was divided into four areas: an interactive zone, a restaurant, a tasting area, and a space for local food. This grand display showcased the island's cuisine under the theme "The customer takes control," emphasizing how important consumers are in choosing high-quality, sustainable products.
