Granadilla de Abona Partners With Civil Guard to Bolster Public Safety
The Granadilla de Abona City Council has partnered with the Civil Guard to enhance public safety and crime tracking in response to the region's rapid population growth.
The Granadilla de Abona City Council has officially partnered with the Civil Guard to better manage the challenges caused by the region's rapid population growth. This new agreement aims to improve public safety by allowing local and national police to share information, access joint records, and track crime statistics more effectively.
This move follows long-standing requests from local officials for more resources and personnel. Security Councilor María Candelaria Rodríguez explained that crime in the south of the island is a regional issue that requires a broader, more coordinated response than local police can provide alone. Consequently, the council continues to push for a dedicated National Police station, which they argue is essential to support the area’s significant population increase over the last five years.
The success of this partnership will depend on how well the two agencies share data and coordinate their efforts through future oversight committees. By combining the strengths of the Local Police and the Civil Guard, the municipality hopes to address current security gaps and stabilize crime rates in one of the Canary Islands' fastest-growing areas.
