Granadilla de Abona Launches Final Phase of El Médano Promenade Renovations

The Granadilla de Abona City Council has announced the final stage of renovations for the El Médano promenade. With a budget of over 190,000 euros, this project will upgrade the infrastructure up to the Los Balos sector, completing a series of improvements along the coastline.

Work is scheduled to begin in about two weeks and is expected to take three months to complete, with a target finish date in November. This final phase follows two previous projects, which cost nearly half a million euros and successfully renovated the section between the main square—near Hotel Médano—and the Leocadio Machado area.

Beyond simply replacing materials, the project aims to give the entire coastline a consistent, modern look. The plan includes installing new street furniture to replace items worn down by heavy foot traffic and the harsh, salty coastal air. Mayor José Domingo Regalado and Public Works head Marcos Antonio Rodríguez noted that these upgrades respond to long-standing requests from residents to improve pedestrian safety and enhance the area’s appeal for locals and tourists alike.

Maintaining wooden infrastructure in high-traffic coastal areas like the Canary Islands requires regular investment to prevent decay. By completing this project, the city ensures that the El Médano promenade will have a uniform, well-maintained appearance, preserving the quality of one of Tenerife’s most popular destinations.
