Granadilla de Abona Invests Over €1 Million to Bolster Social Support Services
The Granadilla de Abona local council is investing over one million euros to support 14 non-profit organizations in their efforts to combat poverty and provide essential social services within the municipality.
The Granadilla de Abona local council is boosting its social safety net this year with an investment of over one million euros. These funds are designed to support 14 non-profit organizations that serve as the first line of defense against poverty and social exclusion in the municipality.
The funding will ensure that these groups can continue providing essential resources and direct support to those in need. Beneficiaries include a mix of national, regional, and local organizations, such as Cáritas Diocesana, the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), and the University of La Laguna’s "Barrios por el Empleo" program. Other groups receiving support include Prominsur, Acufade, Pequeño Valiente, the Virgen de la Esperanza and Inclúyeme Tenerife associations, AFES Mental Health, the Hogar Santa Rita Foundation, Atelsam, the local Parkinson’s association, and the No Somos de Segunda collective.
Rubén García, the head of the Department of Social Services, emphasized that this public-private partnership is vital. He noted that institutional funding is essential for these organizations to overcome the financial and operational hurdles they face in their daily work.
This move reflects a growing trend among local governments to partner with the non-profit sector to deliver specialized social care. By delegating these services to organizations with a deep, hands-on understanding of the community, the council aims to reach vulnerable residents who might otherwise be missed by traditional administrative systems. This approach allows the local government to act as a facilitator, ensuring that essential services are delivered effectively by those best equipped to provide them.
