Granadilla de Abona Approves €1.3 Million Expansion for Sanipeques Nursery School

Granadilla de Abona is moving forward with a major upgrade to its early childhood education facilities. The local council has officially unblocked plans to expand the Sanipeques Municipal Nursery School, a move designed to meet rising demand and bring the center up to current safety standards.

The project has a total budget of nearly 1.3 million euros, split into two main areas. About 650,000 euros will be used to expand the classrooms, while 675,000 euros is set aside to completely modernize the school’s fire protection system. Now that the project has received executive approval, it is entering the bidding process so that construction contracts can be awarded.

Marcos Antonio Rodríguez, the Councilor for Works and Services, emphasized the need to speed up the process so that work can begin as soon as possible. Raquel Morales, the head of the Education department, highlighted the social importance of the investment, noting that these upgrades are essential for providing high-quality childcare and helping local families balance their work and home lives.

This project comes at a time when there is increasing pressure on early childhood education across the Canary Islands. By updating older facilities to meet modern safety and capacity requirements, the council aims to ensure that the public nursery network remains functional and provides a safe, high-quality environment for the municipality’s children.
