Granadilla de Abona Advances Plans for New Facilities at El Médano Beaches
The Granadilla de Abona council has opened a public consultation period for a proposal to install new dining and restroom facilities at El Médano's El Cabezo and La Jaquita beaches.
Plans to upgrade coastal facilities in Granadilla de Abona, Tenerife, have reached a key administrative stage. According to the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands, the regional government has opened a public consultation period for the local council’s proposal to add dining areas and restrooms to El Cabezo and La Jaquita beaches in El Médano.
The local government aims to install permanent, modular structures at these popular beaches. The formal application requests permission to use the coastal land for four years. The project’s technical details are now available for public review for 20 business days, during which time members of the public can submit feedback before the project moves to the bidding phase.
Marcos Antonio Rodríguez Santana, head of the Department of the Environment, confirmed that the council is already drafting the terms for the future public tender to manage these facilities. This project is part of the complex process of managing the Canary Islands' coastline, which requires strict oversight from the Ministry of Public Works to ensure compliance with the Coastal Law. The goal is to provide the services beachgoers want while protecting the local marine environment—a constant balancing act for the archipelago’s tourist towns.
