Granadilla Council Rejects San Isidro Funeral Home Motion
Granadilla de Abona City Council rejected a socialist proposal to fast-track a permanent funeral home in San Isidro and rule out a temporary solution, despite confirming plans for a new facility will proceed.
The Granadilla de Abona City Council yesterday rejected a proposal from the socialist party. The motion aimed to fast-track plans for a permanent funeral home in the La Jurada area of San Isidro and ensure its funding in the 2026 budget. It also suggested ruling out the idea of using the San Isidro Civic Space as a temporary solution.
While the socialist party and an independent councilor supported the motion, it was voted against by CC, Vox, and the PP.
Socialist spokesperson Jennifer Miranda highlighted that in 2023, during a previous council term shared with the Popular Party, a different plan from Coalición Canaria (to convert the ground floor of the SIEC) was dismissed, and a new project was commissioned instead.
Popular Party councilor Marcos Antonio Rodríguez confirmed that the permanent funeral home project will go ahead, but he argued for the need to provide an immediate solution. He stated, "The new funeral home will be built. But we also need to offer something now."
